I brought my car in for an oil change. They stripped out the drain plug and wanted $1000 to replace the drain pan. We picked up the car and took it somewhere else. They told us that there was almost no oil left in the car because the plug was leaking from them trying to drill out the plug. Called to talk to a manager 4 times. Still waiting for a call back.
Car-X Cottage Grove was my go to place, NOT anymore! Will never go there again. Don't believe the 4-5 stars! They are just horrible.My husband brought his car in for an oil leak and a road ready package.They couldn't figure out the oil leak and told my husband he needed a new battery.He said okay, thought they were being honest. He then finds out its going to cost $250! He called me, I was livid, our battery was 3 years old! He called back and said he didn't want the battery. The guy said "it's already installed, I really can't do anything about that, but I will take $100 off!"No, I want my battery! I called and talked with this Tyler and told him I want my battery. He then tells me that he told my husband he was taking $100 off! I said how much is this battery? $250 plus $36 for installation! I said absolutely not! I can install my own battery! I want my original battery that has not been a problem back! He said okay!I'm not even going to discuss the tires they said we needed replaced that we had done TWO years ago!This place is crooked and not trustworthy the way it used to be.Management....no, I am not contacting customer service fix your shop!
Staff member helped me last week to order my tires through Car-X and wrote down total cost for all tires installation and alignment work. I had appointment today for new tires installation and alignment work. Tires installation was done but not alignment work. Staff member mentioned the quote I was given is not same in their system and the person wrote me the quote left for the day. While I was asking to verify it and expected some meaningful explanation, another staff member came and was talking to me in disrespectful manner. I was trying to avoid him but he kept talking and acting in impolite and unprofessional manner. While human error is always possible in any profession, bad manner should not have any place in customer service.
I’ve been coming to this location in Cottage Grove for routine oil changes and ‘wear and tear’ repairs as needed for over 5 years. They’re very down to earth and honest with you when discussing potential needed repairs as well as telling you the pros and cons of getting things taken care of now or waiting. They don’t try to sell you on anything and make it very apparent to you that the ball is in your court. * They also frequently offer discounts online (website and they email you some) and via snailmail on flyers that I highly recommend taking advantage of.
Fantastic overall experience. Brought my car in to get a tire patched. Didn't have an appointment and even though they were busy they were able to squeeze me in and take care of the problem. Tyler was so personable and extra helpful. I would highly recommend coming here for anything. Not my first time here and always leave happy and taken care of. Thanks again!

Low tire alarm went on and found a nail in my tire. Was on my way out of town. Took care of me right away. I was so appreciative of the friendly quick service. I know they were very busy but Tony still made it work to take care of me. Highly recommend their business.
Experience was HORRIBLE!!!! I have bought a complete set of tires less than a year ago from this location. I needed my tires rotated (it is free and part of the Car-X Guarantee). The desk person (Mark) questioned me extensively about when and where I purchase the tires, this despite having my paperwork. He then asked me for an oil change. I didn't need an oil change. I set an appointment for Friday. He then replies tire rotation and oil change for Friday. I then corrected him to rotate tires only. To which he made said correction.I then asked for for X2 tires for my son's 2004 Honda Accord. He offered Kelly tires at about $116.00 a piece. I asked if there were any other tires. Mark stated that the Kelly's were his "best offer". I asked for estimate copy. He then put down X4 Kelly tires and care for over $650.00. I said I only needed X2 tires. He then made said corrections and estimate was about half the price.On Friday when I showed up (10 minutes early) for my rotation. I gave Mark my keys and sat and waited while my vehicle sat in their parking lot. This lasted approximately 30 minutes. After this time, I went to Mark and asked for my key back. I informed Mark Car-X has lost my business and I am done. Mark shrugged his shoulders and went back to completing his paperwork. Apparently without any concern.This experience was about the worst customer service experience I have ever had. Shame on you, Car-X of Cottage Grove.
I have used this location several times now, and I've been very impressed with the service! I just had my spark plugs replaced today, and they asked if I wanted my fuel system flushed, and if so they'd knock off $50 for doing it with the plug change. I agreed, and boy! My car hasn't run this well since I bought it! Highly recommended and I'll continue using their services!
I was doing some body work on my 2002 Chevy Suburban. I wanted to take the side steps off to replace the running boards. I tried all morning together them off . I stopped in to CarX and talked to Tony . They had them off in no time and I couldn't believe it... Thanks Guys for making my life so much easier!
I called Car-X once again to have tires mounted And balanced on 4 custom rims that I would be bringing in. Im certain the white paint was not 100 % cured yet, Not only did they get me in right away, the price blew local competitor's out of the water. I got the phone calls to pick them up only a couple hours after I dropped them off And was pleasantly surprised when I only had 3 very small areas to touch up in the back with white paint, that told me attention to detail was a priority. And In a time where good customer service is mostly long gone at most business's and you simply cannot please everyone, Car-X does customer service the right way. Thank you, they looked sweet when I picked them up and even better when I put them on.
I want to THANK Tony, Lizzy and Kris for troubleshooting ,organizing , informing and preforming and excellent job on my rear brake issue. I will continue to use Car X for all my Jeep and automotive needs. Thanks AGAIN
Made an appt for 100pm to get tires installed. Made the appt 5 days out. Had to take vacation to come here for the appt n they do not have the tires. They were like come back tomorrow. Then they were able to get me in the same day at 400pm. No compensation for thier mistake. They got money n it cost me 4hrs vacation time. I would not recommend this place at all. Totally unsat. No phone call or nothing. Garbage.
Do yourself a favor and avoid this shop. I had dealt with 3 different staff members 2 out of 3 were great. But the blatant over charging of service is quite gruesome. I had a vehicle there that wouldn't start. They quoted me a price for a battery which was to say the least inflated no better should cost over 370 for a mid size sedan. Next they quoted me for a fuel pump module. Again over 400 dollars. I paid anyways bc I didn't want to tow my car else where. Which was a great mistake. After they did repairs the worker was rude bc I need more time to pick my car at a later date. The worker Tony was rude as he could of be. Stating he'll charge 150 extra if I leave my car there another day. And was very belligerent. I would avoid this shop at all cost straight garbage
Amazing service! I called 12 places trying to get my slow leak fixed tonight and finally this shop fit me in and had me on my way in less than an hour. So helpful and kind!
I had four new tires put on my car today. Not only did Tony do a great job but it was also done in a timely manner. I used a $150 mailer coupon and also received a veteran discount. Don't get much better than that. Thanks again Tony.
This was my first time going here for service. Pulled in as my car was literally dying. Had an idea that it was my alternator, and it was confirmed. They were booked for the evening but still replace my alternator for me anyways. Got it done within the same day. They were very nice and even stayed late to work on my car so that I got it back the same day. I truly appreciate the guys here. I will definitely be going back for my mechanic needs in the future. Was only there to pick up my son's car, but the guy behind the counter was friendly and helpful. I've used two other Car_X's in the past and was really pleased with them. Will consider this one as well, for future needs.
DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE! They don't even actually change your oil. This is what my oil looks like, a few miles after they "changed" it. UNCHANGED. I noticed a leak a week later, so was checking my levels and found this, my super dirty oil, after only a few miles driven (I work from home). I own a $30k car, with under 30k miles on it, and they set me up for damage!Not only that, if you have a coupon, they will lie to you and say it's already included, when it's not. After my first time there with my vehicle, I called ahead to make sure no coupons were applied to the quoted price. I asked very specifically for their non discounted, FULL starting price (due to what happened with my car, they gave me $5 of the $15 off coupon I had, saying $10 was already assumed/applied). When it was time to pay for my son's oil change a weeks or so later, he (Tony) again tried to tell me the coupon was already applied, meaning starting price for a synthetic blend oil change would have been $75, not the $60 he quoted me. When I told him I called and specifically asked for the no coupon, no discount starting price, and he told me it was $59.99. He immediately became upset and belligerent, in front of my son. He angrily/loudly said he would not sit and argue with me about it, and then started aggressively banging on the keyboard. Ultimately in his tantrum, he gave us the coupon price, while making things very uncomfortable for everyone. I will NEVER go there again, and I will tell everyone I know to also avoid them at all costs.
Great and quick service. Had a couple tires installed 3/04/22 and had the best service from Tony T. He will treat you right! Honest and gives good advice. Great personality and convo while waiting.Will always bring my cars to the cottage Grove location because of experiences like this.

Management were very helpful with selecting proper tires for my AWD car, giving multiple choices. It was a same day service with ordering the tires, and after they arrived, we’re installed with the hour. I always use them for oil changes too. Highly recommend using their services.

GFs car had a flat. I got air in the tire and rushed it over. Got there just before they closed. Manager (forgot his name) was so understanding and brought the car right in. The tech found a screw, removed tire, patched it and was done in 20-25 min. Thanks again, Mike

Car X is where I go for oil changes. I stopped in on a Thursday afternoon hoping to make an appointment for an oil change, but they were able to get me in immediately. Service was quick and friendly. In the past, they have also rotated and balanced my tires. I like that their oil changes don't cost me very much. Highly recommended.
Tony saved the day! We were in town for a wedding when our check engine light came on. He was able to squeeze us in on a busy Saturday and the mechanics found and fixed the problem right away. Great experience!
THINK TWICE BEFORE PATRONIZING THIS ESTABLISHMENT.My son made an appointment online. He arrived approx. 15 minutes early for his appointment and told the counter person he was there for his appointment. My son was told he had no appointment, but he insisted he did. The counter person then asked "did you make your appointment online?" My son confirmed this. The counter person then said "for future reference, the online appointments don't work". He then stated he could get him in tomorrow - no apology, no offer to squeeze him in, etc., as they were not busy and an obvious mistake had transpired. All that was needed was to install 4 tires, that were already mounted and balanced.If your online appointment scheduling is not functional, disable it from your website so customers don't waste their time - or did your rude employee not want to perform this minimal service? Also, train your employees to have resolutions for situations like this and to treat customers with respect - CUSTOMER SERVICE. So much for supporting local business.
They are honest with their work and won't make up miscellaneous problems to price gouge ya.
Side note I'm a mechanic myself. Chris was great to work with. Didn't get pressured into anything, he was very polite and understanding to my situation. Nice local shop. Glad I stopped by.
I brought my car in for an oil change and a couple days later my wife had a rattle while driving down the highway and returned home to switch cars. I contacted Carx to ask if I would be able to bring the car back in a couple days to get looked at since I had to be home for my infant son who was sleeping. Carx offered to have someone drive out to my residence and looked at the car. They were able to determine what it was, was nothing they did wrong, but a piece had rusted and finally snapped. They drove my car into the shop and repaired it at no cost. Wonderful service!
Great fast friendly service, they get you in and out. There prices are in par with other service shops. They are next to McDonald's and Arby's so you can grab a fast bite while you wait. They make sure your car leaves better than when it went in and goes over the repairs they did and what your future needs.
Alone and a bit distraught over a flat tire, trying to figure out my spare. Car-X was across the way, so out of despair I called to see if they could help. They sent someone over right away! He changed my flat to the spare, so I was able to get my car to the shop. They helped troubleshoot the tire and made the best recommendation. They were friendly, professional, efficient, and honest. Chris and his team totally SAVED me and I am so thankful. If you need a honest car place in CG, this is it.
We have lived in the area for over 30 years. years ago I used to take my cars to tires plus to have work done on them. Over a period of years I had bad services and started going elsewhere. Then Car-X became the owner and my son went in to have some work done on his car and was very happy with the work and price, so I tried to use them. Over the last 3 times that Car-X has worked on my cars I have been very happy with the honesty, price, and the work that was completed. Thank you for your service and I am a loyal customer now.
Each time I call, the person answering is very respectful and accommodating to listening to my concerns and helping me scheduling a time with what I need done, not with more than necessary. I find the service very affordable and done right each time.
I was there on Wednesday July 1 2020. I had purchased 4 new tires and was there to get the tires mounted and balanced on my 2000 Grand Am SE. I had had an issue with my tires not being balanced very well here so I asked them to make sure they were balanced and checked to be good to go so I did not need to come back. After they were all done (by the way I was the first customer at 8am). They pulled my car out and as they drove it near the door I noticed that a hub cap was missing from the right rear tire. We looked for it and found it laying on the ground in the lot...so it fell off after 20 feet of driving, that should of been my first clue.... well the gentlemen at the counter Helped put it back on so I could be on my way. Well after driving it to work one time which is about 20 miles each way I lost three of the four hubcaps on the car Because the lack of attention of putting them back on right. So now I need to also buy all new hubcaps for all four tire. Not happy with this place and tires is their specialty....
Chris was very helpful and got me in on a day that seemed to be very busy. It was only a flat repair, but a big deal to me since we had to be on the road. Thank you Chris and Car X.
I have always had good luck with this location. The old manager Jim was good, new manager Chris is good. It seems like they hire good people who care.

I just want to find out from you guys how water pump for $50 and belt for $69, and the labor cost is $735 plus service fee of 39, making a total of $894 I check with other local shops around everything would have cost $400-500, Overcharged $494-394. Please do process my refund.
